SmartTheme – Alternative Install Methods

Introduction

In this tutorial, we will walk you through 2 alternative methods of installing OptimizePress on your website.

Please Note: If you\’re currently unable to install the software inside your WordPress website, then this article is for you. In the mean time, we strongly recommend contacting your hosting provider to inform them of this and to request a maximum file upload increase to at least 32mb.

Download the OptimizePress Plugin and OptimizePress SmartTheme

To begin downloading the files, head over to your member\’s area and locate the OptimizePress Plugin and SmartTheme. Download both to your computer.

Method #1 – Using CPanel

For this method, we will be using CPanel. Please note that if your hosting package is using a different interface, you will still be able to use this tutorial as a guide while referring to the written documentation of how to use your own service. The process will typically be the same.

Log into your hosting account and locate your main CPanel Dashboard.

Once in your CPanel dashboard, locate and click on the \’File Manager\’ option.

A lightbox will appear to confirm where in the file manager you would like to go. Select the \’Home Directory\’ option and click the \’Ok\’ button.

You will be taken to File Manager area that contains a list of all of your files and folders in your server. Locate the \’Public_Html\’ option and double-click on it.

Next, click on the \’WP-Content\’ folder to be taken to your WordPress contents for your website.

Inside this folder, click on the \’Plugins\’ folder to reveal the contents of all of your listed plugins.

Next, click on the \’Upload\’ icon in the top menu to being uploading a file.

Please Note: You must ensure you\’re in the \’WP-Content\’ directory first and either the Plugin or Theme directory, else this process will not work.

In the upload area, click the \’Choose File\’ button and locate your downloaded OptimizePress Plugin file. Once selected, your server will go ahead and install the file on your server.

Navigate back to the \’ Plugins\’ directory. You should now see the file listed.

The last step is to uncompress the file. By default, all of our installation files are compressed files as a .zip archive.

To uncompress the file, select the file, then click the \’Extract\’ button on the top menu. Then click the \’Extract File\’ button in the lightbox that appears to begin the extraction process.

Click the \’Reload\’ button. You should now see the uncompressed installation file on your server.

To check that the plugin is installed, head over to your WordPress site and go to WordPress >> Plugins >> Installed Plugins

The OptimizePress plugin should now be listed.

Go ahead and activate the plugin. You will be shown a notification telling you that there\’s a problem with your API key. This is normal as we now have to register our installation.

Head back to your member\’s area and click on the \’License Your Site\’ link on the main menu.

Copy one of your available API keys to your clipboard and head over to OptimizePress >> Dashboard >> Global Settings >> API Keys

Paste in your key and save the changes to confirm registration.

Your OptimizePress will now be officially registrered, ready to start building pages.

Next, we want to install the OptimizePress SmartTheme to your website. The process will be exactly the same. However, this time you simply need to navigate and upload the \’OptimizePress SmartTheme\’ file inside your \’Themes\’ folder on your server and NOT the \’Plugins\’ folder.

Once you\’ve uploaded and uncompressed the file, head over to your WordPress area under Appearance >> Themes.

You should now see the OptimizePress SmartTheme listed.

Finally, click the \’Activate\’ button to activate the theme.

Preview the changes by navigating to your site\’s home page. You should now see the theme beautifully displayed.

Method #2 – Using File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

For this method, we will be uploading our files using FTP. For this example, we will be using a tool called  FileZilla.

Open the FileZilla software and log into your server. FileZilla should now list all of your files on your server.

Navigate to the \’Remote Site\’ area, then to the \’Public_Html\’ area, and double-click on it.

Next, navigate to \’WP-Content\’ to display the WordPress contents of your website.

Next, navigate and open the \’ Plugins\’ directory. This will be where we will upload the uncompressed files.

Next, go to your computer and navigate the downloaded OptimizePress Plugin and SmartTheme files. What we want to do is uncompress both files.

If you currently do not have .zip uncompression software installed, you will be required to install this first by going to  7-zip.org.

Double-click on both files to begin the uncompression process. You should now see folders of both files.

Please Note: There must not be any other folder inside the main folder with the main files contained. All core files should be listed in the main folder contents.

Next, go back to FileZilla and locate your uncompressed OptimizePress Plugin and SmartTheme installation folders in the \’Local Site\’ area.

With the folder selected and the Remote destination confirmed, right-click on the file and click the \’Upload\’ option. FileZilla will now go ahead and upload the files to your server.

Once you\’ve uploaded the file, head over to your WordPress area under Appearance >> Themes.

You should now see the OptimizePress SmartTheme listed.

Finally, click on the \’Activate\’ button to activate the theme.

Preview the changes by navigating to your site\’s home page. You should now see the theme beautifully displayed.
