OptimizePress (like most wordpress themes and platforms) uses the Gravatar system [Globally Recognised Avatars] for commenters’ profile images.
This system allows user to have one profile which will be pulled in across all WordPress sites.
Users can setup their own profile if they dont have an account on the Gravatar website:
